Website Building Workflow.
Creating a new website involves a multi-step process, with extensive user input, that helps us design and install a site that most effectively meets the needs of the individual bookseller. After answering your initial questions via email the design and setup process will proceed with the following steps:
Steps:
1 - We need to examine the data you will be uploading to us to make sure that it is in a format we can use. If you are already uploading to an aggregator like AbeBooks, or are using standard cataloging software such as Homebase or Bookseller, then the export files you are already creating will probably be fine for this purpose.
2 - We will arrange a phone call or Skype conversation to discuss what you want and what we will be able to do for you. We have a list of questions we need to answer and this can usually be done most easily while talking together. This step can also precede step 1, but we find that the uploading process can sometimes be helpful in identifying issues that should be discussed in a live conversation.
3 - Based on our conversation (and possibly some follow-up by email) we will send you a proposal. This would describe, in general, the site we would build, what features it would include, what theme modifications and customisations will be allowed, and what the price will be. This should help you to visualise the site that we propose building and to make sure that it will match your expectations. If you want changes at this point they will be easy to make.
4 - If you decide to go forward we will then ask you to provide us with all the photos, graphics files, logos and specific design elements you will want incorporated into your site. It is important that these elements be provided to us before we begin coding since they will determine many of the internal dimensions we need to set. Apparently simple changes to graphic layouts can sometimes force complicated changes to the underlying code, so we are eager to receive, as early as possible, all the design materials we will need.
5 - We will build the first version of your site. If new issues arise during the building process we will consult with you.
6 - When the first version of the site is finished we will give you private access to it so that you can examine and test all the features that have been built. You should test it thoroughly and make notes of any problems you find.
7 - When you think you have identified all the additional changes, we will prepare a final version of the site, incorporating all the requested modifications that fall within the agreed upon proposal
8 - When the final version has been approved and all required features have been enabled we will make the necessary DNS changes and move the site online. Once the site has been successfully deployed your LibriDirect subscription will begin.
